What happens after the initial consultation?

You're one step closer to achieving the smile you've always wanted! After your consultation, we will schedule your first appointment and your doctor will place your new orthodontic appliance. This appointment generally takes about an hour, and during this time our team will be available to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible.

Scheduling Appointments

When treatment begins, you can expect to see us every 8-12 weeks on average. We understand that our patients are extremely busy with school academics, extra school activities, and work. Our goal is to minimize family inconveniences as much as possible.

Regular Appointments

Regular progress appointments are necessary to monitor your orthodontic journey and overall dental health. Dr. Koufos will provide his technical expertise to make adjustments to your braces, appliances or clear aligners during these appointments. We do our best to keep your appointments efficient, minimizing your time in our office. We gladly provide our patients with a Doctor’s excuse to avoid unexcused absences from school.

Most patients schedule these appointments at various times of the day. Even though these appointments may occur during work or school hours, they are critical for your treatment progress. Please keep in mind, we offer some extended appointment times on Monday evenings. In addition, we offer a minimum of one Saturday a month for our “uber busy” families and patients. We thank you and appreciate your patience when scheduling your next appointment. (Please note COVID hours are temporary hours from 8-5 most days.)

Longer Appointments

We do require our patients to schedule longer appointments for placement and removal of your braces/appliances. Both appointments are very exciting and highly anticipated experience for our patients! Longer appointments allow us to give the best service to our patients and reasonably share the burden of absences from work or school.

Longer appointments generally occur in the early mornings or early afternoon hours. (Pre-COVID) We try our best to be efficient with your time. Depending on your treatment goals, patients may be required to add another longer appointment during their treatment time.

Invisalign patients do not require a longer appointment for their placement and removal.

We understand that “life happens”! If you're running late or need to reschedule, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When you're ready to schedule your first appointment, contact our practice and our friendly scheduling coordinator will assist you. We're looking forward to working with you.

Visiting the dentist during orthodontic treatment

It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
