Commonly Asked Questions

How much do braces cost?

There is actually no average treatment cost. Your treatment is very individualized. So, it all depends on the goals of treatment, which our patients help to define with their orthodontist. Comprehensive treatment starts at cost about $5,890.  Depending on your treatment plan, the costs can vary from $1,200 - $8,100.

Why an Orthodontist vs a Dentist?

What is important to know as a potential patient is that when you see an AAO certified orthodontist, you are going to have the most customized treatment plan available. There are many tools in an orthodontic office and it’s the way our Doctors can DIAGNOSE your case that sets us apart. Diagnosing is the most difficult part of orthodontia. It’s the experience and knowledge of knowing HOW and WHEN to do something. We have treated more than 13k patients in our practice. We are confident in treating our patients and believe experience matters!

Can I just have my front teeth straightened?

Yes, of course, you can. However, a specialty-trained orthodontist will also help you understand the benefits and drawbacks of making that choice. An American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) Orthodontist will be sure to advise you and provide information to correct your overall bite to avoid any further complications (and costs) associated with other issues that may develop with just straightening the front teeth.

Are there other hidden fees for my braces?

This is an important question to ask. Many offices structure their fees differently. Keep in mind that our fee includes EVERYTHING. We do not upcharge for retainers, special appointment times, appliances, x-rays, or digital records. We continue to monitor your progress while wearing your retainers during your two-year, post-treatment observation period! These fees can add up fast and can make our pricing very similar to those who offer discounts.

How much more does Invisalign cost?

Dr. Koufos wants you to benefit the most with an effective treatment plan! This decision is made easy when it fits best into your lifestyle! Because our practice is a Premier Provider of Invisalign, Dr. Koufos can usually offer his patients Invisalign or Invisalign Teen treatment at the same cost as metal braces!  For many patients, this can make your smile experience, the ultimate smile experience!  Your in-office visits are fewer with Invisalign, and when worn as prescribed, your treatment time is known to be faster too.

What if my teen doesn’t like Invisalign?

No worries!  At Orthodontic Specialists, we offer an Exclusive Invisalign–Worry-Free Teen Guarantee. If for some reason your child begins with Invisalign treatment and they decide they don’t like it, we guarantee to switch them to metal brackets at no charge. This guarantee is valid during the first six months of treatment only, AND all patients must consistently wear their aligners for a minimum of three months.

Do you offer easy payment plans?

Yes! We want everyone to be able to afford a beautiful smile for an improved self-image. We offer a 0% interest monthly payment plan for our patients. We do require an initial down payment to begin treatment. Our treatment coordinators can help you with the financial details. We also offer CARE CREDIT to help you with your payment plans. For those who are able to pay for their treatment in-full, you will be eligible for a 5% discount. Multiple family members are eligible to receive a discount too!

Does my insurance pay for braces?

This can be a complicated question. But yes, there are Flexible Spending Account benefits that our patients use to help defray the cost of braces. Also, some dental insurances will pay a single lifetime benefit towards orthodontic braces or Invisalign for each child or family member whether the orthodontist is “in” or “out of network”. Braces are typically considered cosmetic and do not typically require medical treatment in the state of Indiana. All insurance plans differ, so please verify your benefits with your insurance carrier.

What if you are not listed as an in-network insurance provider, can I use my insurance benefit at Orthodontic Specialists?

Of course, we will work with your insurance company and in many cases, your insurance company will provide access to your insurance benefit with us.
